Constantinople, the Capital of the Roman Empire

You know that when you are in #Istanbul, you are visiting the capital of the Roman Empire. Or, don’t you know? Yes, Constantinople (present day Istanbul) was the capital of the entire Roman Empire between 330 to 1453.

A very rich resource for research on Byzantine history is the library of the American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) located at Arnavutköy in Istanbul. Much of the material available at this library can be accessed at http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/ARIT/Library.html.  ARIT’s web site is at http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/ARIT/IstanbulCenter.html.
